Route of the visit

At Santueri  Castle there are a number of structural elements of different features and functions found in various states of preservation. For this reason, a multidisciplinary team ─consisting of an Architect, a technical architect, an archaeologist, two restoratives and an art historian─ proceeded to establish a set of criteria that would facilitate their assessment by a scale, for his willingness in order to set a musealization itinerary.

The four technical criteria used in the selection of existing assets in relation to their classification as points of interest are as follows:

  • Significance of the element for the interpretation of the ensemble during the visit. We have selected those sets of elements to understand the main aspects of  castle's life.
  • Condition. We have selected the items in better condition or which have been restored to ensure their stability. Those elements that because of their condition and /or degradation risks related to anthropogenic variables, advise their non-inclusion in the itinerary, have been excluded from it. This selection is based on the working papers prepared by the team, within the restoration (2010-2011) and visits (2012-2013)  projects.
  • Monumentality. We have chosen those which, due to their structural characteristics, size and condition, allow for easy reading and understanding by visitors.
  • Accessibility. Priority has been given to the points of interest which, for its location,  have an easiest access. In the itinerary, have been excluded other elements that. by their nature, had potential risks. In order to avoid these risks, have been chosen solutions limiting access to these elements.

Currently the itinerary consists of 11 points, identified by the letters A through K.

As archaeological research will provide more data,  information will be updated, adding new items of interest to the route.

  • A. Access to the Castle: Embrasure door and Guardhouse
  • B.  Tower of Homage
  • C.  North rampart with guard pass
  • D.  Wood stove and Castellà’s chamber
